Elisa del Portillo y Figueredo and ??? Rodriguez

Elisa del Portillo y Figueredo was described in 1929, as the widow of ??? Rodriguez. Early in the 1900s, a controversy arose over the date on which Perucho Figueredo wrote La Bayamesa. Most historians agree that he wrote the music on August 15, 1867, and the words on October 20, 1868, following the taking of Bayamo, but a manuscript, signed by Figueredo, and including both words and music, appeared with the date, November 1869. Its owner, Adela Morel de Onos, claimed that Perucho had written La Bayamesa at her fathers Santa María plantation where Figueredo, Céspedes and other leaders of the revolution used to go for rest and relaxation. In addition, the words on one line were reversed from those recalled by Figueredos family. It is almost certain that this was a copy made by Perucho especially for the family of Adela Morel de Onos in 1869.
As to the words, in 1929, Elisa del Portillo wrote to the Comisión Pro Himno Nacional declaring that her aunt, Elisa Figueredo, daughter of Perucho Figueredo, taught her that the fifth line, as written by Perucho on October 20, 1868, was en oprobio y afrenta sumido [beneath disgrace and shame]. The manuscript dated 1869, which is now preserved in the National Museum in Havana, reads en afrenta y oprobio sumido [beneath shame and disgrace].
