We are indebted to Oscar
A. Ros, shown below, who took the photos
included in this page.
He is the great grandson of Coronel
Benjamín Ramírez Ferral Rondón, a
veteran of the Ten Years' War, who, after being wounded
no less than seven times, was, in 1873, charged with the
protection of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes
after he, Céspedes, was deposed as president of the
Cuban Republic in Arms.
The photo below is of Aldo
Daniel Naranjo Tamayo, the historian at the Museo
Provincial de Granma, showing Oscar Ros the exact
spot in Bayamo where Perucho Figueredo
wrote the words to La Bayamesa in 1868.
